CD player: Display lights up, but the disc does not spin. CD playback is not working. Cassette decks: Both decks have mechanical issues. Reels turn, but tapes play very slowly, and fast-forward and rewind are not working properly. The CD and cassette issues have not been diagnosed or repaired. This is a vintage electronic unit and may have additional age-related wear or issues that have not been tested. Please review all photos carefully for cosmetic condition and included accessories. No guarantee that any untested functions work. Includes only the items shown in the photos. A nice opportunity to restore a vintage JVC stereo or use it as a donor unit for another repair project. Possible issues with tape deck. Problem A: Both cassette decks play very slowly, and fast-forward/rewind don’t work. The rubber drive belts inside older cassette decks commonly stretch, become loose, turn sticky, or break. This can cause slow playback, weak winding, or complete failure to fast-forward and rewind. Problem B: The CD player won’t spin the disc. The most likely possibilities include. A dirty or failing laser that cannot recognize the disc. A spindle motor that has seized or failed. A stuck disc-loading or lid-detection mechanism. A worn belt or other mechanical fault, if this model uses a belt in that part of its mechanism. Important: A CD that doesn’t spin doesn’t automatically mean the laser is bad. Some players only spin the disc after the laser begins reading it.
